John Freeman was born in Ohio in 1974. He is the author of two books, The Tyranny of Email and How to Read a Novelist, and the editor of Tales of Two Cities, an anthology of writing about New York, forthcoming in October. His reviews and essays have appeared in numerous publications around the world, including The New York Times, La Vanguardia, Morgenbladet and Corriere della Serra. He teaches in the writing programs at Columbia University, The New School and New York University. His poetry has appeared in The New Yorker and The Paris Review. The former editor of Granta and one-time President of the National Book Critics Circle, he lives in New York and London.
